Curator of Big as Life, Lyme Art Association, Old Lyme, CT. (860) 434-7802 June 15- July 29. Opening reception June 22.
Big as Life is an exhibition of major paintings, drawings, and sculpture to be shown at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, Connecticut, from June 15 to July 29, 2012. The exhibition will feature the work of nearly a dozen contemporary artists, each of whom have created pieces that celebrate the presence of the human figure on a large scale. Exhibiting artists will include Harvey Dinnerstein, Hollis Dunlap, Don Gale, Dan Gheno, Deane G. Keller, Tom Loepp, Mary Beth McKenzie, Tom Root, Nomi Silverman, Robin Smith, and Jerry Weiss. Weiss, a contributing editor to The Artist’s Magazine, is the exhibition’s curator.
The artists included in Big as Life—some of whom rarely, if ever, exhibit their work in New England—explore decorative, atmospheric, lyrical, sensual, and socially relevant aspects of the clothed and nude figure. What is common to all the works is excellence of craftsmanship, and an honest exploration of the human subject.
According to Weiss, "The exhibition is an opportunity to display the work of artists I've long known and admired. All are artists who, like myself, have been inspired by the human figure, presented large as life." |
